GTO Days

During your stay at ISSB GTO plays an Important role in your selection as he will watch both your mental and physical indurance. GTO work is divided into Two days it starts from Second day and ends on Third day. The tests he takes from is given in series below;

Group Discussion

Group Discussion is nothing but a discussion on a topic in a group. It is sort of public speaking in which several candidates in a group take part. Each member expresses his opinions on the subject/Topic given by GTO on the Spot. It is thus spontaneous conversation and pre-planned.
Every member is expected to express his idea, and opinions on a given subject/Topic. He must examine the subject in a cool and calm atmosphere. He must shed his shyness. Any member, who possess initiative, tact, self confidence and drive grabs the opportunity and hence assumes this role leader.
Don't offend any member of your group, Even if you are disagree with his point of view. Don't show-off and avoid selfishness. Be cheerful and don't put dirty look. When your turn comes, speak emphatically, logically and convincingly, use correct accent. Be brief and to the point.

Things matters in Group Discussion 

  • Knowledge About Topic.
  • Power of expression.
  • Confidence.
  • Active participation.
  • Self-Confidence.
  • Be polite.

Short Lecture

It is a sort of short speech test, Imparting knowledge and passing information. ISSB lays emphasis on the power of speech. GTO will give every candidate a social or current affairs related topic. On which he has to talk for next 2 minutes.

Things matters in Lecture

  • Time is short, So jot-down important points and give your very best.
  • Divide your Lecture into 3 Parts;
  1. Introduction of the topic.
  2. Body.
  3. Summary or Conclusion of the Topic given.
  • Be confident.
  • Keep your Voice Normal.
  • Don't involve politics.
  • Don't get nervous.

Group Planing

This is also an Indoor activity by GTO. It is just about to test your planing ability. It deals with certain difficult problems, described in various situations. GTO tests your mental alertness, grasping power, power of understanding and finally finding correct solution to the problem or situation given.
 GTO will give briefing about situation and will ask you to solve the situation with in 8 minutes.

Things to remember

  • Listen to GTO's Briefing carefully.
  • Be attentive.
  • Work as a group.
  • Remember GTO's Instructions.
  • Remember time and calculations.
  • Don't interrupt anyone.

Progressive Group Task

This is an outdoor task. In this task a group of 10-11 persons are required to cross three Obstacle tasks in 40 minutes. In this task the first obstacle is easy, second one is harder than first and easier than third, The last obstacle is harder than all first obstacles.

Hints for progressive task

  • Out of bound areas  The whole ground area and structure painted with red color is out of bound. The starting and finishing line is also out of bound.
          If any object or group member touches the out of  bound area will be foul and it should be                   cleared by doing it again.
  • The four feet rule  No one of you are permitted to jump any distance exceeding 4 feet either in length or height. Such distances, are to be crossed with the assistance of the helping material. Some times GTO will allow some one of your group to Jump that's it.
  • The Group rule In progressive Task An Obstacle should be crossed by whole group with its material given, Before the next obstacle should be tried by any one in the group.
  • Time Rule The Task should be concluded with in given time frame which is 40 minutes.

Half Group Task After Progressive group task the group is divided into 2-3 groups which will perform their task individually. This task is short and can be performed easily with proper planing. Time given is 4 minutes. 

Rules

  • Ground is also out of bond.
  • The four feet rule is also applied.
  • Time rule is also strictly followed.

Individual Obstacles

In ISSB they also check your physical endurance, So obstacles are also included in ISSB days routine. There are total 9 obstacles in order of difficulty. Each obstacle carry marks according to its difficulty.
Purpose  They want to check your following qualities;
  • Physical toughness.
  • Courage.
  • bravery.
  • Boldness.
Obstacles names
  1. Passing through tyre.
  2. Ditch crossing.
  3. High Jump.
  4. Boxing ring.
  5. Zig Zag.
  6. Roof Climbing.
  7. Monkey bridge.
  8. Passing by moving plank over a ditch.
  9. Tarzan swing.

Command Task

Introduction  Command task is group task designed to test candidate's ability to command and control, plan and execute a plan successfully. In this task, the candidate is given four to six members of his group by GTO. GTO give him briefing and material about his Task, than GTO give him 2 minutes to plan for task.
In this task each member of the Group is selected as a commander by GTO.You will successful in your task if you have leadership qualities.
Helpful Tips
  • Try to make less fouls.
  • Manage your group.
  • Try to select right man for right job.
  • Also think for other candidates.
  • If you work with another commander try to work hard in his task and avoid selfishness.
  • Always explain your plain to your fellows in your command task.
  • In case if commander of your task stuck in a situation, and you have a plan first take permission from the commander than explain your plain to him.
  • Keep In-bound and Out-of-bound places in your mind.

 When your command task is done GTO will give an assessment chit to every member of the group in which every candidate will write his chest number and date. After that he will write chest numbers of this group fellows on basis of this work from excellent to weaker.

Tips
  • Try to keep on top those peoples who done their best in overall tasks.
  • Avoid friendship in assessment.
  • If you are were good in your group keep yourself on top.

When all these tasks are done the GTO's work will finish there and with a smiling face He will say ALLAH HAFIZ to you.
